Dachshund Brings His Human Baby Sister a ‘Gift’ Every Morning and It’s Melting Hearts originally appeared on PetHelpful.

Meet Wilbur, an adorable mini-Dachshund who is head over heels in love with his newborn baby sister. Each morning, and anytime mom goes in to check on the baby, Wilbur brings his little sister a gift – one of his favorite toys – and it’s the cutest thing you’ll see today!

Their mom put together this video montage showing Wilbur following her into the baby’s room with a gift in his mouth. The toys may change but the sentiment does not; he wants her to know how very loved she is!

This video made my heart so happy! It’s the sweetest thing, and Wilbur’s mom mentioned in the video’s caption that, although the baby is now 9 months old, Wilbur still brings her his favorite toys and gives her kisses every morning. He’s the best big brother ever!

Commenters also adored the sweet video. @nROD818RN shared, “That’s absolutely adorable. Wait until she’s sitting up and he can hand over the toys to her. I love this!” @MissLauraBeth agreed, “He just can’t wait for her to be old enough to play toys with him.”

@starsabove shared, “Look at all the giving! Reason 789,987,987 I adore our Doxies!” I couldn’t help but laugh when @The Doxie Father added, “It seems that long hairs are nothing but sweetie pies. My two smooth hairs are absolute lunatics!”

How Our Pets Bond with Newborn Babies

If you’ve ever brought home a newborn baby and introduced him or her to your pet, it was probably love at first sight for your pooch. Alexandra Bassett, lead dog trainer and behaviorist at Dog Savvy Los Angeles, explains why to the American Kennel Club, “All dogs have a mating drive and den instincts; it’s part of what’s called their ‘pack drive.’” When a dog has a strong pack drive and is tightly bonded with his family, it’s only natural that he becomes protective of a new baby when he or she arrives.”

This relationship is good for the baby, too. The baby will grow up with a playmate and best friend. Not to mention, your pooch may keep your baby healthy, too. Caleb Backe, a Pet Health and Wellness Expert for Maple Holistics, told the AKC that research has shown that babies who grow up with a dog “are less likely to develop certain allergies and usually have a more resilient immune system.” He goes on to say, “When there is a dog around, human babies grow up healthier, more protected, and generally happier.” You can’t argue with that!
