Maurice DuBois departing “CBS Evening News,” leaving show without an anchor

Maurice DuBois is bidding adieu to CBS News.

The longtime CBS Evening News anchor announced that he would leave the show before the end of the month on Thursday.

“Moving On: December 18th is the day of my last broadcast at CBS News,” he wrote in an Instagram post. “It has been the Honor of a Lifetime. 21 years altogether, including my time at WCBS-TV in New York City. What a privilege!”

DuBois went on to express his appreciation for his viewers. “To be welcomed into your homes night after night, delivering the news / meeting extraordinary people and telling their stories,” he wrote. “I’ll leave filled with gratitude, cherished relationships and amazing memories. A couple weeks to go; until then, see you on The CBS Evening News every night at 6:30.”

Representatives for CBS News did not immediately respond to Entertainment Weekly’s request for comment.

DuBois is the second CBS Evening News anchor to depart the series in 2025. His co-anchor, John Dickerson, announced that he would leave the show in October.

“At the end of this year, I will leave CBS, sixteen years after I sat in as Face the Nation anchor for the first time,” Dickerson wrote on Instagram at the time. “I am extremely grateful for all that CBS gave me — the work, the audience’s attention and the honor of being a part of the network’s history — and I am grateful for my dear colleagues who’ve made me a better journalist and a better human. I will miss you.”

CBS News has yet to announce replacements for DuBois and Dickerson, which means CBS Evening News will be anchorless by January — unless the network finds new anchors between now and New Year’s.

Tom Cibrowski, the president and executive editor of CBS News, responded to DuBois’ announcement in a statement to CNN. “Maurice is deeply valued and respected as a journalist by all of us and we wish him much success,” Cibrowski said. “It is my hope that we can work together again. We will have more details on the next chapter of CBS Evening News in the near future.”

DuBois and Dickerson joined CBS Evening News in January 2025, replacing Norah O’Donnell as the program’s top anchors. DuBois first joined the CBS family in 2004 as an anchor for CBS 2 News at 6 on New York’s WCBS-TV. He previously anchored at Chicago’s Fox affiliate network WFLD-TV as well as the NBC affiliate networks KCRA-TV (in Sacramento, Calif.) and WNBC-TV (in New York).

CBS News is in the midst of a company-wide shakeup following the merger of David Ellison’s Skydance and CBS’ parent company, Paramount. Free Press founder Bari Weiss took over as editor-in-chief in October, and the network reportedly laid off around 100 employees shortly thereafter.
