Low-Income Folks Are Revealing The Daily Struggles That Wealthy People Couldn’t Even Begin To Comprehend

Some rich people are so wrapped up in their own bubble that they can be pretty clueless about the rest of the world.

I once met someone in New York City who didn’t know the subway fare because they always used Uber. My mind was blown.

In one Reddit thread, hundreds of “poor” people shared the things that rich people are oblivious to, and it’s wild how much less they have to worry about.

Below are 18 things that rich people could probably never comprehend:

1.“I work with some SUPER wealthy people. When we fly together, I’m back in the far back of coach while they fly in Delta One. One day, one of them complained to me about the lunch meal options on the plane, and my response was, ‘You got lunch?’ She had no idea that they didn’t serve hot food to the rest of the plane.”

2.“Waiting. For everything. Waiting for the bus to arrive, because it’s always late. Taking longer to travel farther to the cheaper store. Waiting at the laundromat for your clothes to finish.”

“Not only that, but the frequency of these waits is also higher, because you don’t have a car or money to be able to buy things in bulk or transport large amounts of clothing.”

3.“Doing math at the grocery store.”

4.“Stretching food and basic supplies. Like, watering down soap, reusing tea bags, and turning one meal into several. Rich people often don’t realize how much creativity goes into just making basics last.”

5.“Eating or using something even if you hate it, even if it sucks or is uncomfortable. Comfort is a luxury.”

6.“Constant planning. Not for parties, but knowing which store has the best deals on certain products, developing routines around how to travel effectively (i.e., stops on the way home, which gas station has the best price), only buying certain products during sales, and figuring out how to ration the money and supplies for the sales.”

7.“Maxing out multiple credit cards and paying minimum balances at the end of the month to get by.”

8.“When you’re poor, ‘vacation’ from work means staying home and using the time to catch up on the house repairs and projects you’ve been putting off. If you have the money saved up, that is.”

10.“Using old food containers like butter or cottage cheese to store food.”

11.“Taking extra care of possessions, and repairing things when they wear out or break rather than toss and replace, because more often than not, replacing it isn’t an option.”

12.“Having to stay in a miserable job because you have a family member with a serious health condition and you can’t afford to lose the benefits.”

13.“I take napkins from work, haven’t bought paper towels in nine years. I don’t know why I do this. Most likely because I’ve been poor most of my life.”

14.“Making or turning down plans based on the cost of restaurants/activities/cover.”

15.“Pricing everything to how long I worked to purchase it. Example: buying bananas is 5 minutes of my work time. Starbucks drink, 10 minutes. I don’t buy anything I don’t need this way.”

16.“The millionaire I was engaged to laughed at me for saving damp paper towels I had used to dry my hands. I was saving them to air dry on top of the paper towel roll so I could reuse them to clean the granite later.”
