Cat Mom? Teenage Tabby Is Raising Possums Like They’re Her Own

Cats have a way of surprising us with their instincts, and this teenage Tabby might take the prize for the most unexpected act of motherly love. In a video that’s making the rounds online, she’s seen chilling proudly with a bunch of baby possums attached to her like they’re her very own kittens.
The possums cling to her fur and follow her every move. She doesn’t seem to mind one bit—in fact, she looks completely at ease with her unusual little family. The internet is eating it up, calling her the ultimate cat mom and marveling at how seamlessly she’s taken on her new role.
The hilariously cute video was shared to the TikTok account @heathereddy, and people have a lot of sympathy for this teenage Tabby cat, who is a single mom working two jobs and loves her kids and never stops.
“Not the stepmom but the mom that stepped up,” one person said.
Another comment added, “Boy, moms are getting younger and younger these days.”

“Awww, these babies must have really needed a new mama,” one person added.
Sadly, we don’t have an update on this whole situation, but it seems to be that even though this scenario is adorable, both the kittens and the little possums need help!
What To Do if You Find a Baby Possum
Finding a baby possum on its own can tug at your heartstrings, but knowing the right steps to take is important. First, observe from a distance. If the baby is larger than 7 inches long (not including the tail), it’s likely old enough to survive on its own. If it’s smaller, check to see if it’s injured or in danger. Never attempt to raise a wild possum yourself, since they need specialized care. Instead, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or animal rescue center in your area. While waiting for help, you can place the baby in a small box lined with soft cloth in a quiet, warm spot. Avoid feeding it unless directed by a professional. By handling the situation carefully, you give the little possum the best chance at survival and a safe return to the wild where it really belongs.
