Only-Child Golden Retriever Meets Newborn Sibling and His Reaction Is Priceless
In a home where the dog rules all as the only fur child (the only child in general), any new additions might come with reluctance. While some pups are thrilled to welcome a brand-new human baby, others could feel a little jealous of having to suddenly share their time with Mom and Dad.
Marley may be one of the most famous social media Golden Retrievers on the web, but at home, he’s the baby and center of his parents’ world. Now that they’ve brought home Marley’s new human brother, he’s going to need a moment to process.
Oh, sweet Marley! That’s the exact same face I made when my parents brought home my younger brother, so I get it. He adjusted to his other human sibling just fine, so I’m sure this will be a breeze once he accepts his fate!
With an impressive 2.1 million TikTok followers, Marley has a plethora of cheerleaders rooting him on. Some of them offered congratulations in the comments with many declaring this loyal Golden will be the best big brother (again), and they’re right.

There’s good reason why so many families opt for Golden Retrievers and the biggest is that they’re generally amazing with children. Part of it is their good-natured, sweet and affectionate spirits and the other part is due to their infinite puppy-like outlook.
It’s always a good time when a Golden Retriever is around. They also make the best babysitters who take pride in watching over their people.
Rest assured, once Marley realized the baby wasn’t going anywhere, he dug into his Retriever roots and decided he’d make the best nanny.
Introducing Your Dog to a New Baby
No matter how “good” your dog is, introducing them to anyone new should be done with care. Start by creating a safe space for them to retreat and making sure they’re good with the basics of training cues (sit, down, stay, go, leave it, etc.) before the baby arrives.
The day of the first meeting, it may help to give them a treat every time they’re good around the baby, so they understand the baby means good things. A harnessed or leashed pup sitting nearby for the initial investigation of the baby helps keep things in control, and makes it short and sweet without forcing anything.
There are many other tips on the web about how to go about making this a smooth transition, but with patience and consistency, you’ll have your very own dog nanny like Marley in no time!
