Suspect’s first court appearance set for Tuesday

Utah County Attorney’s Office expects suspected shooter Tyler Robinson to make his first court appearance, virtually, on Tuesday, after Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray files charges in the killing of Charlie Kirk on the same day.

“Assuming all goes as planned and we file charges on Tuesday, Mr. Robinson’s first appearance will be Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. MDT,” according to Christopher Ballard, chief of staff at the public information office.

The office said it is currently reviewing evidence to decide which charges to file. Gray is also expected to hold a news conference Tuesday, where he will make a public statement on the case.

How today unfolded: A Trump morning show weekend and a hastily called press conference

There are not many manhunts that conclude with the President of the United States announcing that a suspect has been apprehended on morning television — but then Charlie Kirk had a special place in Donald Trump’s MAGA inner circle.

Here’s Ariana Baio’s report on an extraordinary moment on Fox & Friends:

Meanwhile, in Utah, Governor Spencer Cox and FBI Director Kash Patel held a press conference as the suspect’s name was first reported by the Associated Press.

Discord app clarifies reports of messages from suspect

Social media platform Discord said it found no evidence that suspect Tyler Robinson had used its app to plan or incite violence.

During this morning’s press conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox spoke in detail about messages shown to investigators by Robinson’s roommate, which implied the messages were sent by the suspect.

However, Jud Hoffman, vice president of trust and safety at Discord, said in a statement: “These were communications between the suspect’s roommate and a friend after the shooting, where the roommate was recounting the contents of a note the suspect had left elsewhere.”

Hoffman said Discord has taken down the account of the suspected shooter and will keep working with law enforcement.

“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our condolences to the Kirk family and everyone affected. In the course of our investigation, we identified a Discord account associated with the suspect, but have found no evidence that the suspect planned this incident or promoted violence on Discord,” the spokesperson also said. “The messages referenced in recent reporting about planning details do not appear to be Discord messages.”

Charlie Kirk’s coworkers and friends continue his show

Charlie Kirk’s friends and coworkers livestreamed his podcast today to honor his legacy and share messages from the conservative activist’s supporters.

Turning Point’s spokesman Andrew Kolvet and chief operating officer Tyler Bowyer also appeared on Friday’s show, along with conservative podcaster Jack Posobiec.

Their voices were breaking, and some cried as they described how he was texting with some of them moments before he was shot.

“What it was about was, what are the good arguments in favor of marriage, the Christian version of marriage,” said Blake Neff, a former writer for Tucker Carlson who traveled with Kirk.

Kirk espoused a view of marriage in which a husband is the head of a household while a wife is focused on raising children and supporting her man, as long as the man follows Scripture.
