White House chief of staff says no plans for Musk-Trump call today
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has told NBC News that there are no plans for a call between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk today.
“There are no plans for that today,” Wiles told NBC News when asked about reporting by Politico that White House aides scheduled a call Friday with the billionaire Tesla CEO to try to patch things up between the two men.
Trump is “not interested” in a call, a senior White House official told NBC News.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is focused on the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” the GOP domestic policy bill that Musk trashed, which triggered their falling out. “That’s the mindset he left the Oval Office in yesterday,” she said.
A Trump administration official added, “There could be anything — I’d like to de-escalate a very unfortunate situation. But there are no calls on the books, at least not now.”

Johnson says Musk blowup ‘very surprising, disappointing to me’
Speaker Mike Johnson appeared on CNBC’s Squawkbox this morning and was inevitably asked about the Trump-Musk feud.
Said Johnson of Elon Musk: “We exchanged text messages yesterday. I spoke with him at length on Monday. That’s why the kind of blowup that happened this week was very surprising, disappointing to me. I really like Elon. He’s a friend. I’ve come to truly respect his acumen … I wish he wouldn’t argue with me about how to craft legislation.”
The speaker also said he was with the president amid part of the social media feud: “I was with the president in the Oval Office yesterday afternoon as some of this was unfolding, and I can tell you, as he said in his own words, he was just, he was disappointed, and I was surprised by Elon’s sudden opposition.”
He continued: “And look, I hope they reconcile. I believe in redemption. That’s part of my worldview, and I think it’s good for the party and the country if all that’s worked out. But I’ll tell you what, do not doubt and do not second-guess and don’t ever challenge the President of the United States, Donald Trump. He is the leader of the party, he’s the most consequential political figure of this generation, in probably the modern era, and he’s doing an excellent job for the people.”
On Wednesday, Johnson had to admit during a press conference that Musk did not take a call from him amid his sudden opposition to the spending package.
Here’s Gustaf Kilander’s report:

ANALYSIS: Elon Musk’s business empire was built on government help. How badly could Donald Trump hurt him?
Even for Elon Musk, this is — to use the precise technical term — bonkers.
Insults and threats. Calls for impeachment. Sinister references to Jeffrey Epstein. Somehow, Kanye West is also involved. It’s like the messiest online influencer drama you’ve ever seen, except the parties are two of the most powerful people on Earth.

Trump calls CBS, shrugs off Musk feud
President Donald Trump has picked up his phone again and this time, called CBS News.
Robert Costa, the network’s chief Washington analyst, tweeted:
In a phone conversation, Pres. Trump told me he is moving forward with his presidency today and “totally” focused on policy matters, not Musk. Shrugged off feud, brought up the economy, which he cast in positive light.
“That’s all I focus on,” Trump said of his presidency. “I don’t focus on anything else.”
The president sounds especially keen to move on from his very public spat with Musk, which is causing a schism among the MAGA faithful.

For Sale: Red Tesla, low mileage, one jaded owner

A senior White House adviser has told CNN that President Donald Trump is considering parting ways with the red Tesla he purchased in March.
Another official told the network that he would either sell or give away that car.
Presidents almost never get the chance to drive themselves, but other White House staffers have used the car.

Trump ignores Musk spat and rages about interest rates
President Donald Trump is attempting to shift the focus of today’s news to the economy through phone calls with reporters and his posts on Truth Social.
A short while ago, he posted on: “Too Late” at the Fed is a disaster! Europe has had 10 rate cuts, we have had none. Despite him, our Country is doing great. Go for a full point, Rocket Fuel!”
He followed that up with a dig at Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, whom he refers to as “Too Late.”
If “Too Late” at the Fed would CUT, we would greatly reduce interest rates, long and short, on debt that is coming due. Biden went mostly short term. There is virtually no inflation (anymore), but if it should come back, RAISE “RATE” TO COUNTER. Very Simple!!! He is costing our Country a fortune. Borrowing costs should be MUCH LOWER!!!
