Malinois’ Nightly ‘Sass Fest’ Proves Mom Has the Patience of a Saint

Malinois are famously regarded as one of the most difficult dog breeds in the world to have. They need a very experienced caretaker, a lot of exercise, and a perfectly balanced diet. If they don’t get all of that and more, there’s a good chance that they’ll be out of control, fast.

Recently, one Malinois proved that even the best-kept Malinois can be sassy kings sometimes, though. When he wasn’t ready for bed but his mama was, he turned the night into the sassiest slap fest you’ll ever see:

Redden and Maryn are a match made in heaven, and he better thank his lucky stars for that. Someone else might not put up with his slappy hands!

Redden, which means “to rescue” in Dutch, is a rescue Malinois. He was bred for police work, but he ended up not being a fit. It happens! Instead of joining the force, he ended up being adopted out to Maryn, a gym-loving girl in her 20s. Luckily, it was a great fit!

She keeps up with his training and makes sure he gets plenty of exercise, but she also knows how important it is to let a dog be a little silly. Hence why she lets him throw his little tantrums, and even though the caption says “doofus for sale,” she would never even consider selling her doofus.

She even lets him fulfill his dreams of being an indoor soccer star:

He’s so good at it too. I’d pay to see him play on the field!

Are Rescue Malinois More Difficult?

Some will claim that rescue dogs are harder to manage by default, which is both true and not true. It depends on the dog and their individual circumstances, though it is usually true that “working” breeds like the Malinois require more assistance.

They pick up bad habits while they’re in the shelter, and those bad habits carry into their forever homes. You have to be vigilant with training and setting boundaries, and they need a strict routine. Deviation can upset them, and an upset Malinois is not something you want to deal with!

Luckily, Redden was just smacking. He’s a silly boy!
