Golden Retriever’s Gentle Curiosity Over Newborn Baby Warms the Heart

Published

on

Many dogs are instinctively protective, especially with those that are highly vulnerable. Canines seem to be extra careful around babies and toddlers, as if they sense these little ones are on the fragile side.

Riggins the Golden Retriever recently got an addition to his family and he’s slowly getting to know his new baby brother.

In the TikTok from @hurd_about_riggins, the careful canine tiptoed around a white bassinet that held a newborn baby boy. Riggins gently sniffed the cradle to gather more information and kept circling for a better look inside.

The precious pooch seemed to understand that the infant was sleeping, so he barely made a sound as he investigated the area. Riggins looked at his mom for answers. “It’s ok,” she told him. “He’s your brother.”

Previous TikToks revealed that Riggins has been getting ready for the little bundle of joy. A montage from June posted pictures of him wearing a “Big Bro” bib, reading What to Expect When Your Humans Are Expecting, and a sonogram image alongside a tiny gray onesie with “Riggins’s New Best Friend” printed on it.

“I’ve been busy preparing for my biggest role yet: Big Brother,” the caption explained. Yep, a tiny human is joining the pack this July! I didn’t approve this… but I guess I’ll share my toys (maybe).”

Are Golden Retrievers Good With Babies?

Golden Retrievers are famous for being excellent family dogs. They are highly social and extremely intelligent, making them easy to train. This breed has incredible patience, where they lovingly tolerate certain behaviors from babies and toddlers like pulling at their fur or ears. Goldens are very even-tempered, which puts them at the top of the list of dogs who are well-suited for homes with infants and small children.

These canines are very playful and thrive on attention. Golden Retrievers are also known for their loyalty and devotion to their family members, making them an ideal family pet.

Riggins is sure to make a wonderful big brother — he’s already off to a great start!
