Golden Retriever Serves As ‘Nanny Dog’ To Baby and Shows Mom the Ropes

Sometimes our dogs think they know better than we do. We’ll get those sideeye looks or scolding stares to let us know we’re not doing something right. Our pooches sometimes even step in to pick up the slack if they think we’re doing something half-heartedly.

Case in point, Winston the Golden Retriever clearly has a strong paternal instinct over his human baby brother and felt he needed to show his mom a few pointers on child care.

In the TikTok from @winston.goldenpup, the gorgeous Golden was up and at ’em early and ‘narrated’ his everyday tasks in his self-appointed parental role.

“Welcome to a day in my nanny dog life,” the onscreen text began as Winston stood in the hall with his eyes fixed on his mom. “First I hear the baby cry so I’m going to stare at mom until she notices.”

The dedicated dog had plenty to do for the day and moved along to his next item on the list.

“Now here’s me doing a wellness check on baby,” the onscreen text continued as Winston looked over the baby in his crib before giving his approval. The critical canine noticed his mother was falling a bit behind. “Baby’s fine, mom’s still staring at her phone but everything is under control.”

The canine exhibited total competence in his daily duties, though he pointed out some overtime that he never signed on for.

“Watching the baby during lunch isn’t in my job description,” Winston thought as he stayed with the baby boy in his car seat. “But I guess I’ll take one for the team.”

No Rest for Winston

The persistent pooch stayed diligent even on his break, refusing to go fully off duty.

“Even heroes rest with one eye open at least because you just never know,” the text explained as Winston lay on the floor keeping watch.

When Winston’s dad came home from work, he felt he could clock out for the day but not without a parting shot seemingly meant for mom.

“My favorite person is finally home so my shift is complete,” the story concluded. “Nanny dog saves the day, no thanks to… never mind.”

An extra dig was added in the caption: “Still learning the ropes (talking about mom, not me).”
