Mother Donkey Proudly ‘Introducing’ Human to Her New Baby Is Everything

That’s one proud mama! You can always tell when a mama donkey is showing off her little one. Take one sweet donk from Hawaii who was so smitten with her newborn foal. Even their human, Krista, had to agree that the donkey was such an angel. She couldn’t stop gushing over the little one in a video that’s gone viral online.

The donkey mom wasn’t the only one who was smitten with the animal. Krista had to admit that the foal was absolutely “perfect.”

Krista couldn’t get over it. The donkey was so freakin’ cute. The woman was grinning from ear-to-ear in the video she shared.

“Welcome to the farm!” she told the little one in the footage. “You are so stinkin’ cute. What a cutie girl!” she cooed.

Of course, mom Layla had to come over to give her baby some nuzzles. And then Krista allowed mom and baby to rest.

People in the comments section were just as obsessed. “She looks like a stuffed animal,” wrote one person. “OMG she’s so beautiful,” praised someone else. “She is absolutely adorable,” another commenter agreed. “I’m so jealous. I want to have a bunch of baby donkeys,” admitted another person.

How Long Are Donkeys Pregnant?

Man, now we want a baby donkey. They’d be so cute! Hmmm, we wonder how long it takes for a donkey to give birth anyway.

Donkeys are pretty different from humans. If nine months sounds like a long time, you’d never want to be a donk! The typical gestation time for donkeys is about 11 to 14 months, maybe a little more. But when it’s time for a donkey to go into labor things move pretty fast.

You can tell when a mare is about to go into labor by the way she behaves. Mares tend to become more solitary before giving birth. Four weeks before labor, their udders will swell. They’ll usually get their milk about 72 hours before they give birth.

Once it’s time for the birth to happen, things can move really fast. A mare might give birth in 40 minutes! Most donkeys are born at night. For hours after the donkey is born, mares will lick their babies clean and make sure they are taken care of. Then the foal will try to stand up on their own and nurse. That’s just the start of a baby donkey’s journey.

And of course, they’ll all be just as adorable as this little guy!
