Recently, I asked the BuzzFeed Community about a moment when they realized their everyday habits were actually a little weird, and the results kind of shocked me. Here are some of the standouts:

1.“To me, what I do is normal because all of my family does it. But for me, the weird habit is constantly raising my eyebrows, as in up and down. I thought it was normal until I realized no one else did it.”

2.“I fold my trash. Any pieces of paper, foil, etc. (chip bags, candy wrappers, my paper towel, gum wrappers). Anything that can be folded once I’m done with the contents inside, I fold it into a square.”

“My garbage bag is full of neatly folded contents. I’ve been doing it since childhood. I’m 32! My BFF finds it adorable, but my husband finds it annoying.”

—Anonymous, 32, Detroit, MI

3.“Growing up, my mom always had this quirk that she inevitably passed on to me and my sisters when opening a new food container. If the food had a flat surface when newly opened (i.e. peanut butter, ice cream, tub of butter, etc.), she would take a butter knife and create a grid on the top.”

“Then she’d bring it to one of us and we would pass the knife back and forth, playing a quick game of tic-tac-toe on the surface of the food. When it was over, she took it all back and continued on in the kitchen as if nothing happened. After moving out and opening my first, new jar of peanut butter in my new apartment, I facetimed my mom so she could play tic-tac-toe with me. It felt wrong to not play it before using it!”

4.“I was on a trip to Cancun and mentioned to my friend that I like to ‘air dry.’ She asked what I meant, and I said, ‘My vagina. But with a blow dryer.'”

“She was perplexed to find out that after a shower, I dry my privates (butt and vagina) with a blow dryer. I cringe to think of my privates being dried with the same towel I use for the rest of my body. I also wash my privates for 20 seconds each to make sure they’re clean. I didn’t realize those were just ‘me things.’ Lol!”

5.“Eating kiwi fruit with its skin until I saw my friends eating without its skin, then I turned on the incognito mode and searched ‘how to eat kiwi.'”

7.“I talk to every animal I meet/see in French (my first language). I don’t know why I do this, but someone pointed it out when I met their new dog for the first time.”

8.“Shared a hotel with a buddy during a trip and he told me I sleep like I’m embalmed…arms crossed, on my back, stiff as a board.”

9.“I tap the lid of the can three times before I open it when I drink Coke/beer/etc. I had no idea why or even that I was doing it until I was at a ring dunk, someone handed me a beer, and I tapped it and got asked about the habit. They assumed it was for luck, so I went with that instead of me being a weirdo.”

10.“Every time I set down a breakable object or something I don’t want to misplace, I point at it and tell it to ‘stay’ out loud, like you would to a dog.”

“I never thought it was weird until someone saw me do this and asked me if I was afraid it would walk off. To me, I’m more telling it to not fall or get lost, but even that doesn’t make sense considering the objects I’m talking to couldn’t listen if they wanted to.”

—Rayner, 29

11.“One of my favorite snacks growing up was cold canned green beans. My mom would just open the can and hand me a fork. I continued eating them like that until my sophomore year of university when my roommates just stared at me and pointed out how strange it was. I just thought that was the only way to eat green beans.”

12.“When I was 12, I used to suck in and bite the insides of my cheeks. A teacher at school saw it and copied me as a joke. I saw how silly it looked and haven’t done it since.”

13.“Asking permission to go to the toilet. If I’m in someone’s house I’m not used to being in, I’ll ask, ‘Can I use your bathroom?’ or something like that. One day, someone decided it would be funny to say no, and that’s when my mates found out that I wouldn’t go. If they said no, I’d just sit back down.”

14.“I eat things separately (for example, I would eat the chicken then the broccoli). I didn’t know that was weird until my cousin pointed it out, but I still do it out of habit.”

15.“When someone sneezes, I HAVE to say ‘bless you.’ Even if I hear a sneeze in a public place and I’m not near the person and know they won’t hear it, I still whisper it under my breath. I kinda knew it was weird, but my boyfriend pointed it out when we were out to dinner, and I was whispering, ‘Bless you.’ Guess he thought it was creepy.”

16.“When I was a kid, I learned that if you say the ABCs while you hold your Oreo in milk, it’s the perfect softness/crispiness and doesn’t completely fall apart in the milk.”

“To this day, I will whisper the ABCs under my breath. I did this once in front of my ex, and he stared at me, horrified, and asked me why I was ‘chanting’ at my Oreos. I guess he couldn’t hear what I was whispering and was freaked out that I had some evil Oreo ritual or something.”

17.“When I’m about to drink something, I always stick my tongue out a bit. I didn’t know I did it until a friend pointed it out. “

18.“I shake milk jugs before pouring a glass or over cereal. I was raised on a dairy farm so it was necessary with fresh milk. I was about 30 before someone asked why, and I had to think for a minute before I realized I didn’t need to with store-bought milk.”

19.“I fold my right ear over backwards while I read and my wife always freaks out about it. It’s become such a habit that I don’t even realize I’m doing it until she points it out to me.”
